San
Francisco's famous orange bridge is 80 years old this year. But the engineers
and workers who built it had a difficult job.
An original
colour:
the bridge's
official colur, “international orange”, has made it one of the most famous
bridges in the world! But at first, people were not convinced.
Some people
thought it was “ridiculous” while others suggested painting the bridge yellow
with black stripes* so that boats would see it from far away. The orange chosen
is the result of a complicated chemical mixture*.
